A glass of wine, good background music, and a new recipe to make. People who read Nicolas Valentin's articles know first-hand my love of...
Smells, flavors, or foods awaken memories in us. The opportunity we have with cooking is magnificent to not only recall old sensations but also to continue creating new memories that will also be of great value in the future. Water for Chocolate, a must-see film for anyone attracted to good cinema and gastronomy is the exact definition of what I am trying to explain.
In this article, I would like to offer a series of tips for people like me who are interested in cooking. I take this opportunity, then, to list the most basic kitchen utensils that cannot be missing in any preparation.
Knives
Not all of them are worth it: they must be of high quality, durable, and fit perfectly in your hands. Don't use the same one for everything, there is a knife for each function. The most common are the 8-inch knife, the bread knife, the filleting knife, the peeling knife, the boning knife, and the turning knife. Also don't forget a sharpener to keep your knives in good condition.
Chopping boards
It is better that they are made of plastic since wooden ones can facilitate the presence of batteries. The most convenient thing is that you have a board for each food: for vegetables, for meat, for fish... This way you will know where to cut and chop and the different products will not mix.
Grater
Don't get complicated with very modern but not very functional graters. I recommend the box grater with four different graters, one per side, so that you have different types of grating at your disposal.
Spatulas
More tools, easier cooking. If you have a wide variety of spatulas, you will be able to work on more surfaces, which will make your preparations much easier.
Strainer
Drain food or rinse vegetables and fruits. A strainer is another basic element: make sure the one you use is made of metal, has a medium size and has a sturdy handle that is easy to handle.
